Harassed Jope Ruonansuu wanted to do something irreversible – “A terrible thought crossed my mind”

Jope Ruonansuu was severely bullied at school for several years.

Jope Ruonansuu (1964–2020) was the kindest person in the world. That’s what one person after another says Marko Tallin in the documentary he directed Come on.

The siblings remember their brother’s childhood and teenage years and Laila-Mum. They never saw Jope get mad. One exception proves the rule. When dad came home in a rush, Jope took Laila Ruonansuu according to the story, this was caught by the nape of the neck or by the collar, and it snapped for a moment. Otherwise, Jope had the nerves of a cow.

Jope kept his composure even when he was bullied and abused for years both in primary and vocational school. He was pushed into the project and kicked out. In an archive interview, Jope recalls how he vomited blood after one treatment.

– When I was really afraid, I myself prayed, Jope says in the archive interview of the documentary about his means of survival. Over

In his darkest moments, Jope did fear that he would collapse and lose his self-control. It was especially close one school morning.

– I had a terrible thought, Jope is heard saying.

His eyes had been hit by his father’s hunting rifle.

– I thought I would take it on the road and do something decisive.

However, the rifle was allowed to remain in those places.

– Fortunately, the voice of reason inside told me not to do that trick.

When Jope was younger, he led a kind of double life. There was school and time outside of school, the latter of which allowed Jope to move forward. Over

As an adult, Jope Ruonansuu did not miss the opportunity to oppose bullying at school. He did, for example, a school bullying project with President Sauli Niinistö until the end. Niinistö had to finish it alone. The men had talked about visiting Jope’s former school. Then Jope got cancer.

– When telling about the onset of the illness, Jope returned to the matter: “But let’s go to Kemi sometime and talk to the schoolchildren, when the time is more favorable.” Yep, I’m going, Niinistö promised – and kept his word.

Jope and Mari Ruonansuu were invited to the Linna party hosted by Sauli Niinistö in 2016. Over
