Hanze University of Applied Sciences students organize Elfstedentocht, but in a different way, along eleven pubs in Groningen

The Buckshot is called Appingedam for a while, Soestdijk becomes Winschoten. Or the other way around, that’s still a secret. Eleven pubs in Groningen will be renamed eleven Groningen cities and villages on Thursday 22 December.

Five students from the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen came up with the pub crawl as part of their minor in Event Management.

Cafés Buckshot, Pacific, O’Malleys, Hoppe, The Cabin, De Doos, ‘t Gat, Eureka, Kale Jonker and Soestdijk are temporarily renamed eleven Groningen cities and villages. Eleven groups of up to six people travel with a wristband and a stamp card from pub to pub, or from village to city. Each group starts in a different pub.

Best Dressed Contestant

In the participating pubs they receive a stamp and a discount on their drinks. In addition, they have to answer a quiz question about the Groningen city in question.

At the end, all groups gather at Buckshot, where the winner of the quiz is announced. The organization calls on participants to participate in costume. This is not mandatory, but those who do not do so will miss out on the prize for the best dressed participant.
