After relegation in the 2nd league
After staying up in the 2nd Bundesliga, FC Hansa Rostock has extended coach Alois Schwartz’s expiring contract by two years. The club announced this on Sunday four and a half hours before the last game of the season against Eintracht Braunschweig (3:30 p.m. / Sky). Just like Schwartz, his longtime assistant Dimitrios Moutas received a new contract valid until 2025.
“I’ve only been here for nine weeks. But I think you can tell how much I’ve grown fond of the club, the region and the fans during this time,” said the 56-year-old Schwartz. “The support in the relegation battle was amazing and one of the reasons why we managed to stay up. Now we want to stabilize and hopefully have as carefree a season as possible.”
The former Bundesliga professional took over from Rostock in March when they were penultimate in the second division table. However, FC Hansa scored 13 points from the last five games and even managed to save the game early. “Under the direction of Alois Schwartz, we managed to get back on track in sport and to achieve the goal of staying up in the league for the season – despite the difficult starting situation when he took office,” praised CEO Robert Marien.
