A serious motorcycle accident in Germany left Hans Vesseur dangling on the edge between life and death five years ago. He spent the weeks in a coma in a haze of vagueness, imagination and self-created delusions. You get an idea of his unreal situation in the play Stories from In Between.
The motorcycle crash almost proved fatal for Vesseur. At the table during the Radio Drenthe programme Cassata he sums up: “Bruised brain stem, seven broken ribs, perforated lung, crack in the skull and a torn liver. Broken bones were also found in my feet afterwards.”
“I had to be scraped off the asphalt,” continues Vesseur, who crashed on gravel. “It happened in a bend. I was still going straight and drove straight into an oncoming car.” Nurses from an ambulance, which happened to be driving right behind, helped the badly damaged motorcyclist.
