Hans Kraay Jr. put pressure on Pieter Omtzigt last night in Humberto Tan’s talk show to rule out his collaboration with the PVV. “That’s quite disappointing.”
Geert Wilders would love to join the government after the elections, but it seems that soon no one will be able to ignore Pieter Omtzigt’s party and he is not very enthusiastic about the PVV. Yet he does not want to exclude the party and that causes annoyance among some people. Television star Hans Kraay Jr. also advocates exclusion.
Hans was shocked
Omtzigt’s attitude surprises Hans. “Mr. Omtzigt, I have been following you quite a bit and I am a bit shocked by you. Geert Wilders asks: ‘Don’t rule me out, Mr Omtzigt.’ I heard you say, “I don’t see us doing anything together.” It was something like that, right? But why on earth not say: ‘No, Mr Wilders! One hundred percent no!’”
Omtzigt is somewhat vague about this: “I do not want a government where you do not adhere to basic human rights. If you say that all mosques should be closed or the Koran should be banned, then I think you are in an area where you should not be.”
Not clear enough
Hans thinks that Omtzigt talks in roundabout ways. “Why don’t you just say: no, that’s 100 percent out of the question?”
Host Humberto Tan: “You don’t think it’s clear enough?”
Hans: “No, when a question is asked in politics, almost everyone goes into side streets. I almost never hear an answer.”
Pollster Gijs Rademaker: “As the polls currently stand, it is quite difficult to form a centre-right cabinet without the PVV. That might be one of the reasons?”
Moderate tone
Omtzigt: “I think I am clear: I want a government, and I do not see the PVV doing that and I just say that very clearly, in which you simply guarantee constitutional rights. The tone of the program has changed somewhat, I have also seen that.”
Hans a little later: “It’s actually quite disappointing. You could have wrung Geert Wilders’ neck tonight. You didn’t do that. We all go home very confused.”
Omtzigt: “Well, I think that’s very annoying for you, that you’re confused.”
