Hans Klok believes that the Dutch are currently very confused. He recently saw a nurse react with irritation after a compliment. “Then just shut up!”
It disturbs Hans Klok immensely that nowadays you are almost crossing borders when you hand out a compliment. “The showbiz in the 90s was different than it is now. It was much freer and different. We are all a bit confused, people don’t even dare to say anything anymore,” he says in the opinion magazine Playboy†
“Shut up!”
Some women react really exaggerated, says Hans. “I recently heard from someone who said to a nurse in the hospital: ‘You look beautiful.’ Her answer: “That’s not for you to say.” Then you think: keep your mouth shut?”
According to Hans, it’s done with the animals. “I think that is almost scary, which may also have to do with the fact that we live together with so many nationalities on a small piece of land.”
Legal MeToo’er
According to him, Hans’s profession is not a MeToo test at all. “My profession is hopelessly old-fashioned, not emancipated and one big #MeToo story. I touch my assistants, I lift them on my shoulders, I give them a tap on their buttocks. It’s a good thing I’m gay, otherwise I’d be in jail a long time ago.”
He continues: “Actually, I secretly like that, because nowadays nothing is allowed anymore. It’s all #Metoo. I am a legal #MeTooer.”
Pension
Finally: does Hans have his sheep on dry land? Can he stop working already? “No, but I’m doing well with business premises and other investments. I used to always say: ‘I’m not a business person’, but at a certain point I thought: I’ll stop there.”
You can also teach yourself to be businesslike, says Hans. How does he do that? “It’s nice to have a banking app on your phone, see what comes in and what goes out.”
