Hannover 96 has moved further away from the relegation zone in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Christoph Dabrowski’s team defeated Holstein Kiel 2-0 (0-0) on Friday evening and finished twelfth to draw level with the Storks (both 31).
Sebastian Kerk (66th) and Niklas Hult (72nd) scored for the hosts, who are six points ahead of relegation rank 16 after their second win in a row. Kiel, on the other hand, failed again after the 0:2 against KSC.
With a minute’s silence before kick-off, the teams showed their solidarity with the people affected by the Ukraine war in front of 9,200 spectators. On a completely soaked pitch, Dabrowski relied on the same starting XI as in the 3-0 win at FC St. Pauli.
But the guests put more pressure on in the first round, but after a downpour the course became even more difficult to play on. 96 became dangerous in the 35th minute when Sebastian Stolze, Kerk and Maximilian Beier missed a triple chance.
After the break, the situation was similar until Kerk pulled away from the turn and scored against Kiel for the fourth time in a row. Hult’s heel hit made the preliminary decision.
