The game shortly before it was canceled – and Hannover 96 were suddenly back at the top: The Lower Saxony team also won the duel in the 2nd Bundesliga and conquered the relegation spot in the promotion race. Hannover won 2-1 (0-1) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Friday evening and is currently third ahead of the other games on matchday 22.
For Hannover it was the fourth win in a row, while Fürth suffered its third defeat in a row and slipped to fifth place. Armindo Sieb (29th) had put the guests in the lead, Phil Neumann (71st) and Nicolo Tresoldi (81st) turned the game around.
The very entertaining sporting encounter was overshadowed by renewed fan protests against the investor plans of the German Football League (DFL).
Only the third and final attempt to restart the game in the second half was successful after an interruption of around 25 minutes; before that, the fans had persistently thrown tennis balls onto the grass.
The Hanover location now plays a key role in the disputes. Martin Kind, managing director of the club’s professional department, is in focus because of his role in the vote on the DFL’s planned investor entry.
He is said to have voted yes contrary to the instructions of the parent club; without this vote the deal would have failed.
Last Friday, fans from Hanover showed a banner with Kind’s likeness in a crosshair during the away game at Hamburger SV (4:3). Child then filed a complaint. There were no such personal attacks on Friday.
