lost baby

On Sunday afternoon, Aïsha and her boyfriend Milan collected Frankie’s body. “You never really realize how precious they are, how deep that love is, until you lose it. We really loved that animal and are very sad. It’s just family. We don’t have children, but we are lost our baby.”

They did not enjoy him for long. “He was only a year and three months old. It was such a big chat and we always talked back. Now it is eerily quiet in the house.”

Barking and screaming

Once home, the phone rings again. It is one of the officers who responded to the report on Saturday. He tells her that witnesses have seen dogs running loose, but no one else would have seen anything. However, the entire neighborhood was up in arms: “Local residents heard barking, screeching and then a dead silence. Then they saw Frankie lying dead in the playground. Neighbors put a blanket over him.”

Frankie will be cremated tonight at the Zaandam crematorium. “We have a roof terrace and I didn’t want to bury him in a park. We also had our other cat Freddie, who comes from the same litter, say goodbye to him. He meows a lot and still seems to be looking for his brother. let him in for now, because we don’t want to go through this again.”

To give evidence

She hopes that witnesses will come forward, in the hope that it will become clear what exactly happened. And that the conscious owner will leash the dog in the future. “Is it smart to let your dog run free where children play? If he had been on a leash, this would not have happened. We have now lost our ‘baby’. It was a cat this time, but what if someone was next time really lost his baby?”

The police will comment later.
