Hangover Charlie regained his freedom after a sensational rescue by the fire brigade on Monday evening. The animal was trapped in a chimney of a house in the center of Eindhoven for about 24 hours.
Charlie’s owner was worried after his pet was gone for a remarkably long time. It was suspected that the cat was somewhere in or around the house, but the exact spot was not clear. So he decided to call in the help of the fire brigade.
He went out with a cherry picker for a serious search. In order to install the support frames of the colossus, a number of parked cars had to make way in the Prins Hendrikstraat. It caught the attention of neighbor Lars Maxfield who filmed the rescue.
First, a firefighter went up. Using a searchlight, he searched all the cracks and niches on the roofs from the aerial platform. Until Charlie finally appeared in a narrow chimney. A first attempt to lure the tomcat, while rattling a box full of sweets, failed. A second attempt, this time also with the owner in the bucket of the aerial platform, also went wrong. A fishing pole with loop turned out to be a size too big for the narrow chimney.

With a smaller fishing rod, after an hour, Charlie finally managed to get out of his plight. With the noose around its neck, the pet was quickly pulled up from the chimney. To then descend to the ground floor in a litter box of his owner. He was a little ashamed of all the fuss the rescue entailed, but was overjoyed that Charlie had returned safely to Earth. That was also the opinion of bystanders who had followed the rescue. They rewarded the fire brigade, owner and cat with a small round of applause.
