Hang up immediately if you hear these words

The Estonian police are concerned about the increasingly common scam tactics that use automated robocalls. When answering an unknown number, you should also be careful in Finland.

Estonian police warns of scam calls from an unknown number. The ultimate purpose of the calls is to take information or money from the victim.

However, in more cases than before, the caller is not a real person. Criminals make so-called robocalls or automated calls, where a recorded message plays at the other end.

In this scam call in English, the “caller” claims to be the police and claims that the personal information of the person who answered the phone has been stolen and an international wanted notice has been issued for him.

In the recorded message, the person is asked to press number one on the number pad if they want to talk to the police in person.

“Hang up immediately”

Head of investigation in the Estonian police Vyacheslav Milen confirmed in a press release that the police do not make such calls.

– If you receive a call from an unknown number claiming that your data has been stolen, hang up immediately, Milenin instructed.

Milenin said that the Estonian police received more than a hundred reports of suspicious robocalls from citizens on Tuesday alone.

The scam will also come to Finland

Chairman of the Finnish Telemarkkintinitliitto ry Arto Isokoski believes that it is only a matter of time before Finns receive similar phone calls.

– Cheating on different channels has clearly increased and the level of cheating has improved with new technologies such as artificial intelligence, Isokoski says in a press release sent by the Finnish Telecommunications Association.

He reminds that a good help against scams can be security services that block disturbing calls in advance.
