Yannick Hanfmann narrowly won the German round of 16 duel in Gstaad against Daniel Altmaier.
The 31-year-old from Karlsruhe prevailed in a close duel on Wednesday 4: 6, 6: 2, 7: 5 at the ATP tournament in Switzerland. In the quarterfinals he will face the Serbian qualifier Hamad Medjedovic, who defeated the former US Open winner Dominic Thiem.
Hanfmann fought back after falling behind in a set, and the third round was extremely competitive. Both professionals had shown good form several times in the past few months. In July, Hanfmann reached number 45, the best world ranking of his career. As currently 64th, Altmaier also has an eye on the top 50, which he has not yet cracked.
