Tennis professional Yannick Hanfmann has reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Kitzbühel after a short-term change of opponent.
The 30-year-old from Karlsruhe defeated the Russian Ivan Gachow after 2:36 hours 6: 3, 6: 7 (5: 7), 6: 4 and now meets the former US Open winner Dominic Thiem (Austria). Hanfmann was last in the quarterfinals of an ATP tournament in Santiago de Chile in February.
Gachow, who actually failed in the qualification, stepped in as a lucky loser for the sick Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and thanks to his bye in the first round he entered the round of 16.
