Handyman, caretaker and first aider: all-rounder Jaap has now been pampered himself

He is ready day and night: 75-year-old Jaap Wit from Heerhugowaard. He immediately starts looking for a solution when someone asks him for help. That is why his wife Ingrid believes he deserves the NH Helpt cake.

Ingrid surprises Jaap together with three of his neighbors from the apartment complex of which he is the informal caretaker. When he understands what is happening, he waves away the compliments. “I can help because Ingrid agrees. Actually, Ingrid deserves it.”

His neighbors claim the opposite: “He is there for everyone, he is a great guy,” says Frank, one of his neighbors. From a heating that doesn’t work to a front door that doesn’t open, Jaap has helped everyone at some point.

Ingrid says that Jaap is not only there for her and the residents, but that he also volunteers as a first aider and as a handyman at a number of healthcare institutions. When Jaap hears all this, tears well up in his eyes. “Well, this is just a lot of emotion.” Fortunately, the tears soon give way to laughter when it’s time for cake.
