Handjeklap returns to Kleintje Rodermarkt after almost 90 years

The clap of hands sounds through the Brink in Roden. Many traders have come to the village during this first Kleintje Rodermarkt in almost 90 years.

The horses are lined up on the road early in the morning. Traders watch the animals carefully and are looking for the most beautiful and best horses. Here and there their screams transcend the neighing and trampling hooves of the horses.

For the first time since 1935, horses can be found at the spring market in Roden again. “I thought, let’s come up with something new,” explains Albert Ananias, market driver. There should be another horse market at the fair and the competition during Ascension Day in Roden, he thought. A horse fair has taken place in the spring only four times before: in 1912, 1922, 1923 and 1935.

“I think it’s wonderful. It’s the most beautiful thing there is,” says the booster. He opens the doors of his café ‘t Olle Posthoes at 04:00. The cattle dealers are immediately in the pub. Later, other visitors also come who first enjoy a cup of coffee, but later the beer also flows freely.
