Handel expects Mother’s Day sales of 973 million euros

Consumers in Germany are expected to spend a total of almost one billion euros on Mother’s Day gifts this year. The German Retail Association (HDE) predicts this based on a survey of around 1000 people. Almost a third of all respondents are planning special editions in the context of Mother’s Day next week, Sunday (May 14), the HDE announced on Thursday.

“This means that the people who shop for Mother’s Day invest 17 euros per head.” As expected, the focus is on flowers, it said. Almost two-thirds of those who wanted to buy their mothers something said so. This is followed by food gifts, gift vouchers, decoration or perfume. (dpa)
