Handball World Cup 2023: Party warning for German stars

Handball national coach Alfred Gislason did not give the 18 World Cup drivers any sporting homework for the short New Year’s holiday.

“The players don’t have so much time that you want to intervene. But everyone will be careful not to celebrate so much,” said Gislason of the “German Press Agency”.

On January 2nd, the DHB selection in Hanover will begin the immediate preparation for the World Cup from January 11th to 29th in Poland and Sweden.

Gislason therefore relies on the personal responsibility of the national players. “They know that they have to arrive in top shape, so I’m not worried about that,” said the 63-year-old Icelander.

He himself is not planning a big party at the turn of the year, which he is spending in his home country.

“I have to go to the airport at four o’clock in the morning on New Year’s Eve, the plane leaves at seven o’clock. That’s why I won’t be celebrating so extensively,” said Gislason. Partying is not an option for him: “Those times are over.”
