Handball: Volendam strengthens itself with Portuguese Poças

HV Volendam has received the next reinforcement for the new season. The 27-year-old José Poças from Portugal comes over from FC Gaia and immediately joins the group of coach Geert Hinskens.

“José came to us through a Dutch connection. He wants to settle permanently in Amsterdam and wanted to continue to play handball there,” says coach Hinskens on the HV Volendam club page. “He came to train and immediately left a good impression. José offers us more opportunities in the left corner position and is also versatile defensively, we are very much looking forward to his arrival.”

Poças himself is also happy with his transfer to Volendam. “I came to the Netherlands to create a better life for myself. There are more opportunities here than in Portugal. It is exciting to leave everything behind, but I am going to make something of it. I am very grateful for everything that Volendam has done for me so far. I am very excited for the start of the new season and to give back everything the association has done for me,” said the experienced left corner player.

Reinforcements

Poças is the fifth new player for Volendam for the upcoming season. Earlier, Volendam overtook Evan de Lange, Thimo Axt (both Quintus), Lucas Schneider (TuS Ferndorf) and Oskar Schöll (SC Magdeburg 2, Germany). In addition, the club also saw several players leave the fishing village: Florent Bourget (Nancy, France), Rob Goudriaan (SC Magdeburg 2, Germany) and Abou Fofana (Villeurbanne Handball).
