World champion Tess songs from the women’s handball Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund will end her career in summer. The Dutchman announced this on Friday on Instagram.
“After 26 years in which I put my heart and soul into this amazing game called handball, it is time for me to say goodbye. This sport gave me more than I could ever give back, and holy straw sack, what kind of trip,” wrote Tess songs in the post with numerous pictures from her handball career.
It also said: “If you had told the five-year-old Tess that they won championships and trophies with teams from all over Europe, win medals at European and World Championships, represent their country twice at the Olympic Games and have the best time of their lives, I bet with them, she would not have believed it.”
In Germany, songs for VfL Oldenburg, SG BBM Bietigheim and currently Borussia Dortmund ran.
Before moving to BVB in the summer of 2023, daughter Flo saw the light of day in November 2022. The handball player is married to ex-footballer Mart Mart songs. The former striker ended his career at the Dutch second division club FC Eindhoven last summer.
Wester will be handball world champion in 2019
Wester celebrated the greatest success of her career with the Netherlands national team. In 2019 the team crowned the world champion.
Despite the success, life as a professional athlete also had dark sides, as songs emphasized in her statement.
“Everyone sees the medals, they see the pictures with the cup and the broad smile. But what they do not see are the hours that we are sitting alone at home and are waiting for the next training session, the sometimes endless hours we put in the training to strive for perfection, and the disappointment that we can feel when the things are not running as we hoped and worked as hard,” admitted the 31-year-old.
