Handball players Hurry-Up hand over the match against Visé in Zwartemeer in the final phase. ‘We had less momentum at the end’

The handball players of Drenth Groep Hurry-Up unfortunately lost to HC Visé BM in Zwartemeer on Saturday. The score was 25-26 for the Belgian visitors.

The young Hurry-Up team played a hell of a game against Visé, but lost control of the exciting match in the last five minutes. The crafty and more experienced HC Visé BM (in full Handball Club Visé Basse-Meuse) took advantage of a few mistakes by the home club. As a result, the Zwartemeers’ lead disappeared like snow in the sun. The Belgians first tied the score at 25-25, after which the strong circle runner Yves Vancosen gave his team the lead.

Hurry-Up then had one more attack in the absolute final phase to equalize. Because playmaker Emiel Hoogland threw the ball into the hands of an opponent, it did not come to that. Visé played out the remaining seconds expertly. The defeat for the Drenthe was not deserved. The home team got too little and the visitors too much. Because Hurry-Up had been equal and sometimes better for a large part of the match.

We got through it less easily

“We had less power at the end,” concluded Hurry-Up coach Sven Hemmes. “We didn’t get through it as easily, even though we had made agreements about this. That’s too bad. That has to do with some of the inexperience of my team.”

Hemmes pointed out the moment that the Zwartemeerders led 24-21 seven minutes before time. “We kept running, but then we should have slowed down a bit. Unfortunately, it is no different,” said the coach. Hurry-Up lost control due to hasty play and lost the ball. As a result, the Belgians quickly leveled, after which they struck in the absolute final phase.

According to Hemmes, playing against Visé took a lot of strength. After all, the Belgian team consists of the necessary male putters, who can boast the necessary handball experience. Hence it was admirable how well Hurry-Up, which has many young inexperienced players, stayed on its feet. “Maybe I should have made more changes in the second half,” said Hemmes, “but we had a strong phase at one point. I didn’t want to interrupt that.”

We played a really good match

Hemmes saw his team play ‘a really good game’ despite the loss. “We showed that we have a fighting mentality. But we were about twenty kilos short per person. They also had difficulty with our coverage, as they only scored 26 goals. We did that very well. Then it’s a shame that we didn’t score more goals ourselves. We normally make around thirty.”

Furthermore, Hemmes noted, Visé also had an advantage in terms of greater experience. “They are all five or six years older. We knew that in advance. We had studied the opponent and knew where the weaknesses were. But we didn’t exploit it enough.”

Hurry-Up went into halftime against Visé with the score tied at 13-13. The Zwartemeerders started to play better in the second half and took the lead. Unfortunately, the home team could not maintain the high level until the final whistle.
