Handball, HBL: THW Kiel maintains mini-title chance

THW Kiel kept its mini-chance of a successful title defense in the Handball Bundesliga.

Four days after the triumph in the DHB Cup, the German record champions solved their mandatory task with 27:24 (13:8) against HSG Wetzlar and secured second place with 44:10 points behind leaders SC Magdeburg (48:4). Sven Ehrig was Kiel’s most successful thrower with four goals.

In the table basement, GWD Minden is staggering as penultimate towards relegation. Minden (13:43) is two points behind the saving bank after a 22:33 (13:19) at old master FA Göppingen.

There is still HBW Balingen-Weilstetten (15:41) after a 21:29 (7:15) defeat at Bergisches HC.
