TSV Hannover-Burgdorf has made it into the group stage of the European League. Coach Christian Prokop’s handball team won the qualification second leg against Ystads IF HF 30:21 (11:10) on Saturday.
The Lower Saxony had already prevailed in the first leg in Sweden with 33:28. The best throwers of the “Recken” in the second duel were Branko Vujovic and Jonathan Edvardsson with five goals each. “We managed to get everyone online straight away,” TSV coach Christian Prokop praised the attitude of the entire team against the Swedes. Their coach Oscar Carlen admitted: “Hannover deserved to win and qualified for the group stage. They were a size too big for us for two games.”
Problems only in the first half
Hannover got off to a good start, leading 8:3 in the 16th minute. After that, however, the concentration dropped a bit, and a few changes led to a break in the “stretching” game. The Swedes reduced to one goal before the break. “It has to get better,” Prokop demanded in view of the upcoming tasks in the European League and the Bundesliga.
After the break, TSV pulled away from 13:12 (35th minute) to 21:14 (47th). The guests, who had reached the round of 16 in the second most important European cup last season, could no longer follow.
First group game on October 17th
In the group phase, the Lower Saxony in Group B now meet Gornik Zabrze from Poland, AEK Athens from Greece and HC Kriens-Luzern from Switzerland. The Prokop team will play the first game on October 17 in Switzerland. The first home opponent is Zabrze on October 24th.
