VfL Gummersbach has continued its good run in the handball Bundesliga. The twelve-time champion beat newly promoted ThSV Eisenach 37:31 (18:13) on Friday evening and climbed to fourth place in the table, at least for the time being, with their fourth win in a row.
On the Gummersbach side, pivot Ellidi Snaer Vidarsson excelled with twelve goals. The Icelander ran really hot in the final phase, only missed one of his 13 attempts and thus secured the victory for the Bergische team.
Eisenach, on the other hand, missed their next success four days after the surprise win against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. The newcomer remains in tenth place for the time being.
In the basement duel, bottom team Bergischer HC won 32:28 (16:16) at HSG Wetzlar and climbed to 13th place with their second win in a row. Coach Jamal Naji’s team defeated the previously unbeaten league leaders MT Melsungen last Saturday. National player Djibril M’Bengue played a key role in the victory over the Hessians with five goals.
