Following the coming 2022/23 season, Gaugisch will then switch completely to the German Handball Association (DHB). “The network between the national team and the Bundesliga can continue to grow through the dual function in the coming season,” said DHB sports director Axel Kromer. Gaugisch signed a contract with the DHB until 2024, which would be automatically extended until April 2026 if he qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and would therefore also include the home World Cup in December 2025.
In the DHB selection, he follows the Dutchman Henk Groener, with whom the association could not agree on a contract extension. Officially, the Swabian’s working paper is valid from July 1st – but Gaugisch will celebrate his debut on April 21st. Then the decisive game in the European Championship qualifier against Greece in Almere, Netherlands, is on the agenda. Two days later follows an international match against former world champions Netherlands.
Gaugisch: “The Olympic Games have always been my dream”

Just having the chance to take part in the Olympic Games and world or European championships has always been my dream,” said Gaugisch on Thursday about his new job . “Of course we are very happy for Markus Gaugisch and for the continued successful cooperation in the club until the end of June 2023 as well as for the German national team,” said SG BBM sports director Gerit Winnen.
Success series of the SG BBM Bietigheim under Gaugisch
Markus Gaugisch has been training the women of SG BBM Bietigheim since July 1, 2020. Under his direction, Bietigheim won the DHB Cup and the Supercup in 2021. Since The women from Bietigheim are unbeaten in 44 cross-competitive encounters and are currently at the top of the women’s handball Bundesliga (HBF). Also, they qualified for both the European League Final Four as well as the Final4 of the HBF (in the SWR Sport Livestream on May 28th/29th, 2022).
