Handball: Füchse Berlin conquer the top of the table

As of: September 22, 2023 9:45 p.m

The Füchse Berlin have also won their sixth game in the handball Bundesliga and are now first in the table. TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and SG Flensburg-Handewitt had previously drawn.

The Berliners clearly won 37:26 (23:12) at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten on Friday evening (September 22nd, 2023) thanks to a strong first half. At least until Sunday the Füchse conquered the top of the table, but then MT Melsungen can overtake them again. The best Berlin throwers were Mathias Gidsel with nine and Lasse Andersson with six goals.

Both teams started nervously, Mathias Gidsel only scored the first goal after two minutes, but strangely with his back to the goal. The capital city team were in the lead from the start and kept improving. Thanks to strong defensive work, they repeatedly won the ball and scored easy goals.

Foxes worry about Fabian Wiede

In addition, keeper Dejan Milosavljev saved the first two seven meters. After a good 23 minutes, the lead was in double digits for the first time (18:8). However, this was overshadowed by Fabian Wiede’s injury a minute earlier. The national player twisted his ankle when landing and had to be carried out of the hall with his face distorted in pain.

After the break the game was more balanced. On the one hand, Balingen improved, and on the other hand, the Foxes no longer always acted with ultimate consistency – especially on defense. The Berlin game – with increasing wear and tear – no longer ran quite so smoothly. Nevertheless, the capital city team easily achieved a clear victory in the end.

No winner in the northern duel between Hannover-Burgdorf and Flensburg-Handewitt

The game between TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and SG Flensburg-Handewitt ended 26:26. With the last throw, ex-Flensburg Marius Steinhauser secured the draw for the hosts, who were behind 11:14 at halftime. The best throwers in front of the 7,521 spectators were U21 world champion Justus Fischer with six goals for Hannover and Emil Jakobsen with nine goals for the guests.

In the early stages, the defensive lines of the two European League participants dominated the game. Hannover scored their first goal of the game in the fifth minute. Even if the Flensburg team didn’t play without mistakes, they managed to pull away a little later. Lasse Möller made it 12:9 (26th) for the guests, Simon Pytlick increased it to 14:10 (30th).

The guests initially remained dominant even after the break. Left winger Jakobsen gave the North Germans their first five-goal lead with his goal to make it 20:15 (42nd). However, the Lower Saxons resisted. Marian Michalczik gave TSV the lead with 23:22 (51st), but was immediately shown a red card after a foul on Pytlick. Flensburg failed to extend its lead to 26:25 in the final minute.

Second win in a row for HSV

On Thursday (September 21st, 2023), HSV Hamburg had already left the bottom of the table with a win at FA Göppingen. The 32:27 (19:16) was the second win in a row for Hamburg, it moved the North Germans from 16th to 11th place in the table. Göppingen, on the other hand, slipped to 14th place after their second defeat in a row.

The best thrower at HSV was Dani Baijens with nine goals, while Josip Sarac scored eight times for Göppingen. The three-goal lead at half-time was enough for Hamburg, who had had a bad start to the season, to secure an unchallenged victory in the second half.
