The Rhein-Neckar Löwen have taken the lead in preliminary round group A in the European League after their second win in the second game. The handball Bundesliga team won 36:32 (19:17) against the top French club HBC Nantes on Tuesday and thus put themselves in a good position to advance. In front of 2,403 spectators, national player Juri Knorr was the top scorer with eight goals for the German cup winners, who had won 26:20 at the start at the Swedish champions IFK Kristianstad. The third opponent is the traditional Portuguese club Benfica Lisbon.
Against Nantes, the Lions pushed the pace from the start and quickly opened up a 10:7 lead (14th). After the break, Knorr and the six-time goalscorer Andreas Holst Jensen took responsibility and led Mannheim to victory.
