Status: 09/27/2022 9:20 p.m

Handball Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt can already plan for the group phase in the European League. The Schleswig-Holsteiners celebrated a 39:25 (21:12) in the qualifying first leg at the Polish club MMTS Kwidzyn on Tuesday evening.

Thanks to this resounding victory in the table tenth of the Extraklasa, progress for the team of SG trainer Maik Machulla should only be a matter of form. The second leg in Flensburg will take place next Tuesday. The group phase of this European Cup competition, which was called the EHF Cup until 2020, begins on October 25th.

SG quickly pulls Kwidzyn away

Strictly speaking, the Poles were not allowed to dream of a coup against the three-time German champions for 200 seconds. After six minutes, thanks to the third goal from right winger Johan Hansen, it was already 6:1 for the SG, who showed concentration from the start three days after the unfortunate Bundesliga defeat at the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. In the final phase of the first half, Schleswig-Holstein led for the first time with eleven goals (19:8, 26th). With a 21:12 it finally went into the dressing room.

In the second section, it was all about how much the SG, which was superior in all respects, would win. 13 goals ahead (32:19) for the first time after 48 minutes, after the final siren at 39:25 even 14 goals. The most successful Flensburg players were Hansen, Teitur Einarsson and Emil Jakobsen with six goals each.

On Saturday in the Bundesliga against Magdeburg

The SG faces a more difficult task on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) in the Bundesliga. Then the Machulla team awaits the current German champions for the top game. In the event of a defeat, Flensburg would be five points behind SCM after the sixth game day.
