There was a big surprise in the other game in Group A earlier in the evening. France couldn’t get past a 26:26 draw against Switzerland and is therefore under a lot of pressure in their last game against Germany. Especially if the DHB selection wins today and moves one point ahead of the French.

North Macedonia is likely to demand significantly more from the DHB team than the Swiss. Coach Kiril Lazarov’s team is in a phase of change and was only able to keep up at the beginning in the first game against France (29:39), but has more quality in the squad than the Swiss. “They can be very unpleasant if we are not careful,” warned Alfred Gíslason, who expects a “very hot-blooded” opponent. Goalkeeper Nikola Mitrevski and half-left Filip Taleski, who once played for Rhein Neckar-Löwen and Balingen in the Bundesliga, lead the young team with their experience.

With the clear 27:14 win against Switzerland, Germany got off to an impressive start to the European Championship and laid the foundation for a successful preliminary round. The duel with North Macedonia now has a decisive character, because with another success, Alfred Gíslason’s team would book their ticket for the main round early. Since by far the most difficult group game against the record world champions is coming up, the DHB men definitely want to seal their progress today.
