The Scandinavians easily marched to the top of Group F, winning comfortably against Portugal, Greece and the Czech Republic with a difference of at least nine goals each. In some cases, even the established top talent could be spared, with Mikkel Hansen and Mads Mensah only being able to play in a tournament. The Dutch also started the tournament very confidently, winning the first two games against Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with ease before the final showdown against the Swedes. A thrilling duel at eye level, it was about two fundamentally important points for the main round. In the end, Oranje were left behind with 28:29, but can build on a very strong performance against the defending champions today. Nevertheless, the Danes go into the duel as the clear favorites, the Dutch are likely to find themselves in the underdog role, but are under pressure early on to keep their dream of reaching the semi-finals alive.
5:40 p.m
The main round group II is definitely Scandinavian in character, with Norway, Sweden and Denmark all making it to the round of the last twelve. There are also Slovenia, Portugal and the Netherlands. The reigning world champions from Denmark, defending champions Sweden and the ambitious Slovenians were each able to take two points from the duel against the runners-up in their group into the main round and are therefore in the best position to reach the semi-finals. But there is still a chance for the other three teams, a lot can happen on four match days with many high-class duels. Many exciting games are coming up, Norway and Portugal have already presented, here the southerners won surprisingly clearly with 37:32 in a fast-paced game. Now it’s the Danes’ turn, demanded by the Dutch.
5:30 p.m
For the first time, one nation is the sole host of a European Championship with 24 participating teams. Your goal: to win the European handball crown in Germany. The tournament begins in six preliminary round groups of four teams, with the first and second place teams moving on to the six-team main round. The points from the direct duel in the preliminary round will be taken with you. Then there are another four games to determine the placement in the main round. The two best teams advance directly to the semi-finals, then play crosswise against the nations from the second main round. The respective third-placed teams still play for fifth place in the tournament. This means that excitement is guaranteed in every game in the main round; you can only go far in this tournament mode with optimal results. Any loss of points, be it in the main round or taken from the preliminary round, can decide whether you advance.
