Germany’s handball champion SC Magdeburg has brought in the third victory in the fourth group game in the Champions League.
In the Champions League, the Elbe city-dwellers got their third win against the Polish runner-up Wisla Plock at 33:27 (17:16). In front of 3,944 spectators, Kay Smits and Gisli Kristjansson were the best Magdeburg shooters with eight goals each, while Mike Jensen shone in goal with eleven saves.
SCM struggles at first
In addition to Matthias Musche (tendon injury), the SCM also had to do without Omar Ingi Magnusson at short notice for personal reasons. Both teams were on target, the goalkeepers initially played no role. So it was already 8:8 after almost twelve minutes.
Magdeburg missed a few balls up front and defensively couldn’t get Sergei Korosotov under control, who kept hitting from the back. Only shortly before the break did the SCM manage to take a first two-goal lead (16:14/28.).
Lots of hair-raising bugs
Even after the break, both teams made hair-raising technical mistakes, but after a few minutes the guests couldn’t do anything thanks to the strong Jensen and SCM pulled away decisively with a 6-0 run (23:17/39.).
On Sunday (October 9th, 2022) the SCM will meet MT Melsungen in the Bundesliga before playing as the defending champion at the IHF Super Globe in Saudi Arabia.
