The German handball champion SC Magdeburg has achieved another victory in the Champions League. In front of 3,984 spectators, the Elbestadt-based team won 36:34 (21:18) against the Danish representative GOG Håndbold. With eleven goals, Omar Ingi Magnusson was the most successful scorer for Magdeburg, who are now on course for the round of 16 with twelve points and third place in the table.
The Danes got off to a better start in the game, also because ex-Magdeburg player Tobias Thulin saved a few balls early in the goal (2:5/7th minute). Magdeburg found it difficult to find gaps in the mobile GOG defense and repeatedly produced weak deals. Philipp Weber came on for the unlucky Michael Damgaard and SCM turned the game around (11:10/19.). The SCM was able to pull away slightly until the break because GOG showed weaknesses in attack.

SCM wobbles only briefly
The second half was even. The SCM couldn’t extend its lead, but neither could GOG shorten it. It was only when Magdeburg were twice outnumbered that the Danes managed to catch up (25:24/42.) and finally equalize. Magdeburg only wobbled briefly and then pulled away by four goals (31:27/52.). GOG came back again, but could no longer prevent Magdeburg’s victory.
