The handball team of SG BBM Bietigheim suffered a setback in the Champions League. Coach Gaugisch’s team lost in Ljubljana and are now in doubt for the knockout stage.

Next defeat for the handball players of the SG BBM Bietigheim in the Champions League. The team of coach Markus Gaugisch lost 28:35 (14:19) to the Slovenian record champions Krim Ljubljana and remained without a win in the fifth European Cup game in a row.

The targeted fourth place in the preliminary round group A and even the entry into the knockout round, i.e. at least sixth place, are in danger. Coach Gaugisch, who is also the national coach and will be replaced in Bietigheim by the Dane Jakob Vestergaard after the season, emphasized the importance of the game in Ljubljana before the throw-in.

Kudlacz-Gloc and Behrend best throwers

“There are very important games in the Champions League for us in the coming weeks,” said Gaugisch: “We want to leave Crimea, Brest and FTC (Ferencvaros Budapest, ed.) behind us. A win in Ljubljana would be a good thing for that strong sign.”

Already in the first round Bietigheim fell behind (14:6/20.). The SG could no longer catch up. The best thrower of the game was Darya Dmitrieva with twelve goals. Among the guests, Karolina Kudlacz-Gloc, who had to be treated after being hit in the neck, and Jenny Behrend were the most successful with five goals each.

Next endurance test on Saturday

After half-time, however, the hosts pulled away again. Before the away game at defending champion Vipers Kristiansand next Saturday, the pressure on the SG will increase.
