Game start
8:43 p.m
Slowly but surely the tension is rising in the Hala Legionow, which is of course sold out with 4,200 spectators! The teams are already on the record, the Champions League anthem has faded away and in just a few moments this cracker between Kielce and Kiel can begin!
8:33 p.m
The Zebras’ last success against the Polish record champions was a whopping 13 years ago. “It’s been ages since we were able to win in Kielce. I was still a player back then…” remembers THW coach Filip Jícha and concludes: “So we don’t need to be afraid of the challenge, because we’re actually in Kielce can only surprise.”
20:24
While Kiel will definitely still be top of the table after the game, the home side will almost certainly have to deliver today if they want to have a chance at the top two places. There are currently only two points between second-placed Aalborg and sixth-placed Zagreb and any loss of points could be decisive in the end. In contrast to the first leg, which THW won at home with 35:31, coach Talant Dujshebaev can now rely on his son Alex in the backcourt and on Germany’s national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff.
8:17 p.m
After the bitter blow in the top game against SC Magdeburg, the Zebras got back on the road to success at the weekend and secured a 29:25 away win at Bergischer HC. Now things are going international again for the first time since the beginning of December. The THW comfortably leads Group A of the Champions League with 15 points from ten games and is three points ahead of today’s opponents. With a win, Kiel would take a giant step towards direct quarter-final qualification.
