Handball Bundesliga Women: Dortmund wins against Leverkusen and stays on top

The handball players from Borussia Dortmund seem to have digested their first defeat of the season in the Bundesliga last week well.

On Saturday (October 28th, 2023) Dortmund hijacked a 29:27 (14:16) victory at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The guests didn’t get off to a good start. After just 20 minutes, BVB was five goals behind at 7:12.

But Borussia fought their way up until the break. Haronu Sasaki reduced the score to 14:16 shortly before the siren. Dortmund came out stronger in the second half. With a 3-0 run, the Black and Yellows took the lead for the first time at 20:19 in the 38th minute.

Leverkusen fights in vain

Little by little, Dortmund pulled away, but things got tight again in the final phase. Just four minutes before the end, Mariana Lopes brought Leverkusen to 25:26 and one goal. But Borussia held firm and secured their fifth win of the season.

Anna Lena Hausherr scored eight goals for Dortmund. Viola Leuchter was Leverkusen’s most successful player with seven goals. Bayer 04 is eighth with 5:7 points. Dortmund stays in third place with a score of 10:2 and is in contact with the top spots.

Home win for Blomberg-Lippe

HSG Blomberg-Lippe landed its fourth win of the season with a 30:27 (15:15) win against the HSG Bad Wildungen Vipers. Laura Rüffieux scored seven goals for Blomberg-Lippe and goalkeeper Melanie Veith made 15 saves. 8:4 points currently mean fifth place.

HSV Solingen-Gräfrath got an important point in the fight to stay in the league with a 30:30 (16:14) win against VfB Oldenburg. Especially in the second half, the almost 700 fans in Solingen’s Klingenahlle experienced a close game. Vanessa Brandt, Solingen’s most accurate scorer with nine goals, scored the celebrated equalizer 23 seconds before the end.
