Wetzlar (dpa) – Handball Bundesliga club HSG Wetzlar has signed the Ukrainian national goalkeeper Gennadi Komok.
The 34-year-old is on loan until the end of the season from HC Motor Zaporizhschja, who is currently unable to play due to the Russian attack on Ukraine. “We are very pleased that Gennadi has decided on our offer and that we can offer him, his wife and his two children an orderly life here in safety in the coming weeks and months,” said HSG Managing Director Björn Seipp.
Komok, who has been in Germany with the national team for a good two weeks, is to replace Anadin Suljakovic, who has an injured inner ligament, at HSG and will make his debut in the Bundesliga home game against leaders SC Magdeburg. “I’m very happy and grateful for the offer from HSG Wetzlar. I’ll do my best to help the team over the next three months,” said Komok.
