The Magdeburgers were successful on Sunday (May 22nd, 2022) at HSV Hamburg with 32:22 (17:11) and maintained their six-point lead over THW Kiel. The defending champion had previously won the 106th northern derby at SG Flensburg-Handewitt with 28:27 and thus postponed the crowning of the Magdeburg champions once again.
The sovereign front runner can now make the second title win after 2001 prematurely perfect on June 2nd. A draw in the home game against HBW Balingen-Weilstetten is enough.
In Hamburg, Magdeburg’s Omar Ingi Magnusson was the outstanding player with twelve goals in the 29th win of the season in 31st game.
Dramatic game in Flensburg
Thanks to the victory in a dramatic game in front of 6,300 spectators, the people of Kiel claimed second place in the Handball Bundesliga with 50:10 points, which entitles them to participate in the premier class next season. They are followed by Füchse Berlin (50:12) after a 31:25 at HC Erlangen and Flensburg (46:14).
Beer and a day off
“It feels very good”said Kiel’s coach Filip Jicha about the victory at the archrival. “The boys will definitely get a beer on the way home and a day off on Monday.”
