After a bitter defeat against SC Magdeburg, GWD Minden is the second relegated team in the Handball Bundesliga. The team of trainer Frank Carstens lost on Thursday (June 1st, 2023) by 30:44 (13:17) to the German champions, who remain on the heels of the leader THW Kiel in the title race.
Minden no longer has a chance of staying up in the penultimate place, the saving 16th place can no longer be reached with two games left and a deficit of five points. This means that GWD has to follow ASV Hamm-Westfalen into the 2nd league. Magdeburg is in second place with 53 points behind Kiel (53), but has two more minus points. The THW can extend the lead again on Sunday.
HSV Hamburg lost important points in the fight for international places. Coach Torsten Jansen’s team lost against SC DHfK Leipzig by 28:31 (17:13). The Hamburgers are in sixth place, which would be enough for Europe if Foxes Berlin won the European League.
Lions with a victory
The Rhein-Neckar Löwen meanwhile celebrated a smashing victory against Bergischer HC. The cup winner prevailed in the home arena with 39:29 (19:15) against the former club of coach Sebastian Hinze.
The TBV Lemgo Lippe beat the tail light ASV Hamm-Westfalen with 30:25 (16:13). In the catch-up game on matchday 31, MT Melsungen won against Frisch Auf Göppingen by 26:23 (17:13).
