The Füchse Berlin have at least temporarily taken over the top of the handball Bundesliga table.
On Saturday evening (February 17, 2024), the Berliners won against TBV Lemgo Lippe with 30:26 (15:11) in front of 7,808 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. But SC Magdeburg can overtake them again with a win at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf on Sunday. The best Berlin throwers were Mathias Gidsel with ten and Lasse Andersson with five goals.
It took the Berliners a few minutes to get into the game. The hosts made some technical errors and playback errors. But Lemgo could not benefit from this. Because the capital city team were very good on defense. And once again the parades were on Keeper Dejan Milosavljev Leave.
Foxes punish Lemgo’s mistakes
After around seven minutes, the Füchse increasingly scored easy goals through fast counterattacks. After 14 minutes the lead had increased to 7:3. Afterwards, the guests got into the game a little better offensively, but the foxes continued to punish every mistake made by the Lemgoers. They pulled ahead by five goals in the first half (14:9).
After the break the game became much more even. Lemgo now found it easier to score goals and the Foxes found it more difficult to attack. The fact that the guests didn’t get closer than three goals was mainly thanks to Milosavljev’s saves. In the end, the Berliners confidently achieved this victory.
Melsungen back on track after the lesson
After the clear defeat in Magdeburg, MT Melsungen struggled to a must-win against Bergischer HC, who were in danger of relegation. Five days after beating the champions, Melsungen won 31:26 (14:14) on Friday evening. The game was even until 23:23, then the hosts pulled away.
For Melsungen, which suffered its first defeat in the first leg at Bergischer HC after the best start to the season in the club’s history, the Spaniard Erik Balenciaga (7) scored most often. Latvia’s Dainis Kristopans (6) also played well. At the team from Solingen and Wuppertal, Eloy Morante Maldonado was successful five times.
Erlangen’s big point in the relegation battle
In the second game on Friday evening, HC Erlangen collected important points for staying in the league by beating HSV Hamburg 30:28 (15:12). HSV, on the other hand, is still in acute danger with just one point ahead of Bergischer HC and ThSV Eisenach in the first relegation zone.
Former world champion Casper Mortensen was the best scorer of the game with nine goals, but even the Dane couldn’t prevent Hamburg from losing.
