Füchse Berlin and SC Magdeburg have put pressure on THW Kiel with away wins in the Handball Bundesliga. The previous leader of the table has to follow suit on Easter Sunday.
The Berliners won on Thursday (April 6th, 2023) with great difficulty 33:32 (18:15) at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and now have a plus point lead over Kiel, who can pass Magdeburg again in the top game on Sunday, on the first place. The best Berlin throwers were Robert Weber with eleven and Lasse Andersson and Tim Freihöfe with five goals each.
Defending champion Magdeburg kept pace with the foxes in a catch-up game of the eighth game day on Thursday and, after the sovereign 38:34 (17:16) at Bergisches HC in the end, is now 40:10 points and one point behind Berlin in third place. Backcourt player Kay Smits was the outstanding man at the German champions with 14 goals.
Flensburg stays tuned, Wetzlar wins after changing coaches
SG Flensburg-Handewitt also kept their chances for the title and secured fourth place in the table by beating SC DHfK Leipzig 30:27 (15:17). Coach Maik Machulla’s team is only two points behind the foxes after their third league win in a row.
Two days after the surprising separation from coach Hrvoje Horvat, HSG Wetzlar celebrated a 28:26 (11:10) win at Frisch Auf Göppingen and moved four plus points clear of the relegation zone.
