Borussia Dortmund’s handball team clearly beat Bayer Leverkusen. Thüringer HC also won in the battle for the top of the table.
On Wednesday evening, the Dortmund women won a match on match day 13 35:27 (13:12) at the Werkself.
The game was also brought forward to Wednesday because Dortmund will host ES Besancon Feminin from France for the second leg in Group A of the European League on Sunday (throw-off at 2 p.m. in Hamm).
The Werkself were unexpectedly up 4-0 after five minutes. They started the new year after two surprising away wins in Neckarsulm and Halle-Neustadt. BVB, on the other hand, was just as unexpectedly eliminated from the DHB Cup in Bensheim a few days ago.
BVB better after a sleepy start
But as the game went on, the guests got more and more under control of their lack of concentration at the end. In addition, the attack on the defensive was getting better and better, so that the Westphalians had equalized after nine minutes to 4:4 and another four minutes later they were 8:5 in the lead.
Bayer is one goal behind until the break
But Bayer managed not to let the deficit get out of hand. Although coach Johan Petersson had to do without Mareike Thomaier, as he did at the weekend, the team managed to stay within striking distance. After 21 minutes Bayer had come up to 9:10. Until the break, the home team managed to keep the narrow deficit – with 12:13 it went into the cabins.
What was noticeable at the break: Of seven seven meters (three for Bayer, four for BVB), only the penalty throw thrown by Dortmund’s backcourt player Frida Rønning found its way into the net.
Borussia pulls away after the change
The most conspicuous player of the entire game, Dana Bleckmann, converted the next seven-metre throw – nine minutes had already been played in the second half and Dortmund had now pulled away to 17:21. Coach Henk Groener’s team showed their individual class, were a little more dynamic and used their chances more consistently, with the players aiming higher than in the first half and thus being more successful.
And so the game of eight against third took the expected course. Over 23:29 after 52 minutes, it became quite clear for the Leverkusen team at the end with 27:35. Dana Bleckmann was the best scorer on the guest side with ten goals, while Mariana Ferreira Lopes was the most accurate at Bayer.
The Thuringian HC doesn’t slip up either
In the second game of the evening, Zweites Thüringer HC had big problems with HSG Bensheim (ninth place) for a long time. After 48 minutes, the favorites were just 22:21 in the lead, but in the end they pulled away to a clear 30:24 (12:10) victory.
Annika Lott was the best thrower and scored seven goals. With 23:3 points, the THC secured second place after the first half of the season behind the leaders SG BBM Bietigheim.
