The Bergische HC has worked its way into midfield in the handball Bundesliga with a winning streak. On Saturday the BHC was successful at home against FA Göppingen.
The guests from Göppingen got off to a better start with a 3-0 run, but were never able to decisively overtake the BHC. Even when the score was 7:11 and Göppingen had possession of the ball (21st minute), the home team stayed on the ball.
Equalization to 14:14 with the half-time whistle
In crucial scenes, Bergische’s self-confidence from three competitive game wins in a row – including the cup – came into play. The goal by BHC player Elias Scholtes to equalize the score at 14:14 at the half-time whistle was significant when he hit the crossbar brilliantly from a very unpromising position.
This conciliatory end to a half in which the hosts were behind almost the whole way allowed coach Jamal Naji’s team to start the second half with a tailwind. Lukas Stutzke, Mads Kjeldgaard Andersen and Tim Nothdurft, who was recently called up to the national team, gave the BHC a three-goal lead (17:14/33rd minute). In the end, the latter was also the best BHC thrower with six goals.

Sebastian Heymann reduced the score to one goal in the 47th minute (25:26). Stutzke, Eloy Morante Maldonado and Linus Arnesson let the BHC dream of an early decision (31:27/52nd), but it should remain exciting until the gap.
In the final phase, a two-minute penalty for Göppingen’s David Schmidt and a converted seven-meter penalty by Noah Beyer to make it 32:20 set the course for the BHC to finally win (59th minute). Nothdurft puts the final score at 33:30.
