Hand biker Geert Schipper after pulverizing the world hour record: “I feel fine”

With 47,289 meters, hand biker Geert Schipper from Spanbroek pulverized the world hour record yesterday. “I feel fine. I just slept badly,” says a sober Schipper a day later. The old record was held by Jetze Plat with 44,749 meters. The Spanbroek completed no less than ten rounds more than Plat in the Sportpaleis Alkmaar.

“I knew it had to be possible and I felt good. I did everything I could. From training enough to the right nutrition. Of course I also didn’t want to get sick. I was of course nervous at the start,” said Schipper. The resident of Spanbroek also says that he wanted to make his attempt in the spring, but that Ukrainian refugees were received in the Sportpaleis Alkmaar.

“I’ve had messages from all over the world”

Broke?

A day after he set the world hour record in the Sportpaleis Alkmaar, Schipper is feeling fine. The North Hollander has absolutely no muscle pain. “Afterwards of course I had painful arms, but tomorrow I’ll just train again. Today I drank coffee and went to the bicycle shop. I also received messages from all over the world,” says the North Hollander enthusiastically.

Future

Skipper is not going to sit still now. At the end of November, the World Paratriathlon Championships are in Abu Dhabi and that is why he continues training. In the spring, the 45-year-old athlete wants to wheel a marathon. “I’m thinking of the Paris marathon and then I want to finish at least in the top ten.”
