Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams want to invest in Chelsea takeover. According to Sky Sports, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion and the 23-time Grand Slam winner have both pledged to contribute £10 million to the bid from businessman Martin Broughton, one of the three remaining candidates to take over the English football club.
Todd Boehly, co-owner of American baseball club Los Angeles Dodgers, and Stephen Pagliuca of Boston Celtics basketball club have also made an offer.
The involvement of Hamilton and American tennis star Williams in Broughton’s bid is striking, especially given that the English driver is an Arsenal supporter himself. The two sports stars have reportedly been in talks with Broughton for weeks. According to a source close to his consortium, the addition of Hamilton and Williams is a “serious investment decision” because of their experience building sports brands. It was previously announced that Broughton is collaborating in his bid with Sebastian Coe, president of the international athletics federation World Athletics.
Chelsea is for sale because Russian owner Roman Abramovich is leaving as a result of the war in Ukraine. Since being put on a British sanctions list due to his Russian connections, Chelsea has faced many restrictions. For example, restrictions apply when selling individual match tickets.
