According to the “Hamburger Abendblatt”, the German Tennis Association wants to use Rothenbaum in Hamburg as the venue to host an intermediate round group in the Davis Cup.
The association applied together with the Austrian promoter Emotion Group, which also organizes the tennis tournaments in Stuttgart (men) and Berlin (women) in Germany, the daily newspaper reported on its website.
The four intermediate round groups are to be held from September 14th to 18th at four locations that have yet to be found. The finals will then take place from November 23rd to 27th. Abu Dhabi is the favorite for the event.
The German team boss Micheal Kohlmann had already said after the victory in the first round duel in Brazil that he was hoping for a group to be held in Germany. “If it were in Germany, then of course it would be a huge thing and a huge highlight for everyone in our team,” said Kohlmann in Rio de Janeiro.
According to DTB President Dietloff von Arnim, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev has also declared his willingness to play in Hamburg. “He has expressed his interest and would like to help us reach the finals if Rothenbaum is played,” von Arnim told the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper. However, the US Open in New York only ended the weekend before.
