Thomas Tuchel is leaving FC Bayern in the summer. Former player Dietmar Hamann suggests a replacement candidate – and his name is not Xabi Alonso.
Thomas Tuchel’s departure from FC Bayern is a done deal. The coach and the German record champions will end their collaboration in the summer. The club announced this on Wednesday.
FC Bayern now has to find a successor for the outgoing coach. Xabi Alonso, who is currently on course for a championship with Leverkusen, has been mentioned for a long time. Ex-Bayern professional Dietmar Hamann does not believe that the Spaniard will move to Munich.
“The more I think about it, the fewer arguments I find why Xabi Alonso should move to Munich,” wrote Hamann in his column for the pay TV channel Sky. “He has a great squad in Leverkusen and if he stays, then I could imagine the team staying more or less together.”
Alonso will not forget what he owes to Leverkusen, the former national player continued. “That’s why I could imagine him staying in Leverkusen for at least another year,” he emphasized.
VfB coach to Bayern? “The club has to humanize again”
In the end, ex-Real coach Zinédine Zidane will do it? According to Hamann, the Frenchman doesn’t want to work anywhere where he doesn’t speak the language. That’s why the 50-year-old suggests another Bundesliga coach as the future Bayern coach.
“I would almost tend to say: Let Sebastian Hoeneß do it,” wrote Hamann. Hoeneß is currently under contract with VfB Stuttgart. Last season he saved them from relegation and is now with them on course for the Champions League. VfB is the first pursuer of Bayern in the table.

Hamann also gave reasons why he would rely on Hoeneß at FC Bayern. “The human element has been lost in recent months or perhaps even years,” he explained. “The club has to humanize again, as they say in Bavaria, at all levels. Hoeneß could contribute to that.”
Hamann advises Kimmich to “change the scenery”
Hamann also addressed another much-discussed personality among the Munich team in his column: Joshua Kimmich. The departure of the DFB star has recently been discussed more and more frequently in the media. Kimmich’s relationship with coach Tuchel is considered to be broken.
“Joshua Kimmich didn’t have an easy time under him recently,” wrote Hamann about the situation between player and coach. “I think that a change of scenery would perhaps be good for Kimmich. For him it would perhaps be the last opportunity to go abroad to a big club again.”
