The singer is currently not allowed to bring out album
In an interview with “Apple Music 1” moderator Zane Lowe, Halsey said: “I can’t do an album right now, I mustn’t. This is the reality. The great impersonator has not performed as you thought.” The album was released on October 25, 2024 and reached second place on the US “Billboard 200” charts and 19th place in Great Britain.
“If I am honest, the album sold 100,000 copies in the first week. This is a fairly big first week, especially for an artist who has not had a hit for a long time. The tour is the top of the sales of my entire career. Nevertheless, you want to go to Manic,” Halsey continues. It refers to her album Manic album, which was published in 2020, which sold 239,000 units in the first week.
Comparison with previous success
Halsey criticized in the interview that her current work will be compared with the figures of earlier pop hits: “This is the most difficult thing to be a pop star. I am no longer, but I am still compared to numbers and artists: inside that I do not see at eye level.”
She also remembered her time with Ariana Grande when she competed for the top positions of the charts: “We didn’t fight, we only enjoyed it. It was the best time ever.”
Experimental concept album
The great impersonator is an experimental concept album that processes Halsey’s health crises. In recent years she suffered from lupus and a bone marrow disease. “I made a concept album about how I almost died,” she said to moderator Zane Lowe. Despite the experimental character of the plate, the loyal fans bought around 100,000 copies in the first week.
In June 2024, she wrote about her health situation on Instagram: “After two years, I feel better and am grateful than ever to have music that I can turn to.”
Outlook and tour
Last month Halsey also published Badlands (Decade Edition Anthology) on the tenth anniversary of her debut album in Badland. As part of the “Back to Badlands” tour 2025/2026, it will perform in Great Britain, Europe, North America and Australia. In addition to The Great Imperserator, she released the punk rock-inspired single “Safeword” and “Hand That Feeds” with Amy Lee from Evanescence.
