Halsema about princess Amalia: “Your heart cries that a young woman is made so unfree”

Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema calls the extra security of Princess Amalia and her move ‘a drama that is unfolding’. That’s what she said this evening during a meeting in the Stopera.

VVD party leader Claire Martens asked Halsema questions. She spoke of a ‘very unfortunate event’ and of a trend that freedom and security are under pressure in Amsterdam.

unfree

Halsema said she had been aware of the situation for some time. “Your heart cries for this. That such a young woman, who is already so oppressed in her freedoms because of her position, is made so unfree.”

But she pointed out that it is not the result of Amsterdam. “It’s a problem. It’s not that it doesn’t happen elsewhere.”

Naturally

The security of Amalia is the responsibility of the Royal and Diplomatic Security Service (DKDB) of the police and the national services. Halsema says that the municipality and the Amsterdam police will ‘obviously give all our cooperation’ if help is asked if Amalia lives or walks around here.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima allowed themselves today about the situation for the first time. They said that Amalia now lives in The Hague and only comes out for her studies.
