Halle in Munich is not finished: DHB is looking for an EM location

The European Handball Championship 2024 in Germany needs a new location. As reported by the German Handball Federation (DHB), the SAP Garden in Munich will not be ready in time for the continental title fights.

“We regret this news and are now looking for solutions,” said Mark Schober, CEO of the German Handball Federation: “We will talk to the European Association EHF and Olympiapark GmbH to see whether the Olympic Hall can be considered as an alternative hall.”

The 11,500-seat SAP Garden was to be the venue for two preliminary round groups in January 2024. The already qualified world champion Denmark is planned as a team in Munich. However, the hall will not be ready until spring 2024 at the earliest. Advance sales for the games in the Bavarian capital, which started in May, have been stopped for the time being. Other venues for the EM are Düsseldorf, Mannheim, Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne.
