Half of the Dutch are sympathetic to repeat jab

About half of the Dutch are open to the repeat shot against the corona virus. This appears from Monday published research by I&O Research, carried out on behalf of the NOS, in which 2,684 people participated. The elderly in particular are eager for the extra vaccination, while young people show themselves less benevolent.

The repeat injection campaign will start this Monday. New irons in the fire are the corona vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna. They provide better protection against the Omirkon variant, which is currently responsible for almost all infections. At the moment, 87 percent of the Dutch population has been vaccinated against the corona virus. More than two thirds (70 percent) have also had a booster.

It remains to be seen whether the Netherlands will run out in large numbers for the repeat shot. Research by I&O shows that 73 percent of those boosted will probably or certainly get the repeat shot. That would equate to more than half of the total population. One tenth of the boosted respondents has not yet made a decision. It is therefore not possible to say with certainty that half of the Dutch population does not need a repeat injection.

The end of the corona pandemic is in sight, the World Health Organization reported last week. It is therefore not surprising that the research shows that an increasing number of people believe that vaccination should be a free choice. In December 2021, when the Netherlands still had many infections, almost half of the population thought so. Now more than two-thirds say they find freedom of choice important. This also means that fewer and fewer Dutch people are in favor of compulsory vaccination.
