Bottled water companies are standing in the way of the development of tap water worldwide, a research institute of the United Nations University UNU-INWEH has signaled. Not everyone has access to drinking water yet and the continuously increasing sales of bottled water may gloss over the water problem. In addition, half of the money spent worldwide on the purchase of bottled water, sales of which have exploded in recent decades, would be enough to ensure universal access to drinking water.
